ABSOLUT ANTHEM

Hmmmm. If this was an ad for greening your environment, clean water, or something sustainable then I might say that this is a great ad. But because Absolute has a big budget they put together this piece. It is still pretty cool though.

Graffiti - Pfizer Commercial

This commercial was posted on through our internal email. For those of you who missed it, it is worth a watch, and some goose bumps.

TATE MODERN, "Tate Tracks"

A friend of mine had this link in her Gchat. It is a pretty interesting way to get the younger demographic interested in Art. The California Academy of Sciences is also doing this with the 20-30 something crowd by letting people visit the museum after hours and view the art, listen to music, and have a beverage or two.

HD in SLOOOOOWWWWWMMMMOOOOO

I-Movix SprintCam v3 NAB 2009 showreel from David Coiffier on Vimeo.

Slo-mo seems to be the recent theme. This would be a brilliant ad for a company to use to highlight the benefits of HD TV.

Humana - 2nd Hand Clothes

We all try to donate our old clothes to Good Will or the Salvation Army, but think about the good it could do for a 3rd world country. This ad's depiction of second hand clothes meeting new people is one, very visually pleasing, and two, hits right on the empathy chord. Humana is not found in the US, but I am sure we could find another location that would be able to donate our clothes to needy people.

Canadian Hockey - Date

Never mix with enemy. This ad reminds me of a Sportscenter ad.

Uncontrolled Waste in the Sea

Good way to get a point across.

HD: Super Slo-mo Surfer! - South Pacific - BBC Two

Most sporting events/people have been slowed down to get the full effect of their powerful movement. It is logical progression to slow down mother earth, but surfing helps bring this movie to the mainstream. Magical is a great word to explain what a wave looks like in slow-mo. I need to find this show on TV.

McDonald's Piccadilly Circus

This is a great way to combine outdoor and social media. Talk about getting people to talk about a billboard that they interacted with.

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Heineken - Cab

This reminds me of Karaoke the other night. Well maybe we were a little better. The difference was that the cab driver was a woman who only sang Rolling Stones songs, and danced/sounded like Mick Jagger, except her voice was similar to a fog horn.

Hasbro - Risk Website

This site promotes the latest version of Hasbro's Risk. The site is geared towards men 18-39, and users can interact with the pieces on the space of land. Kind of fun to mess around with. Check it out here.

Gambler Crew vs Dream Team Japan (Full Battle)

So this may not be advertising, but HOLY CRAP! I think it should be titled, "Who said the human body wasn't capable of everything?"

Amnesty International: Frau im Koffer

I can't understand the language, but the point gets across anyways. This ad is about people trade if you didn't get it.

Massive yarn ball rolls through San Francisco

Cutwater's ad for Ray Ban. Looks like the Sony Bravia commercail Balls, but Hipster style.

Friday, May 1, 2009

Solar Billboard

Clever way to get a point across. I wonder what we should name this type of advertising? Disposable advertising, recyclable advertising, Leave-no-trace advertising? Suggestions?

Carlton Draught Drop the Bomb

If you have seen the other Carlton Draught commercials you wonder what the company says to the ad agency. I mean this would be a fun place to work when a company says we'll give someone $100K for us to drop their car out of a plane. Not to bad.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

LG Commercial - VH1 Save the Music Foundation - Drum Routine

Juvenile Stomp brings you save music programs in schools. Even air drumming sounds good in this ad. I guess we anything can be turned into something you can beat the noise out of.

Friday, April 24, 2009

NEW: Heineken Walking Fridge (follow up)

The first Heineken ad was pretty funny, but when can we actually get a fridge like this? Friday beer day would be a whole new experience if you could call a robot fridge to bring you a beer at your desk. I guess this might help contribute to us getting fatter. Hmmmm... It is a trade off I am willing to take.

Zappos - Visualize

Everyone is trying to make visual representations of data, and Zappos is no different. Zappos launched a site where users can watch a map update with different products that people are purchasing from Zappos.com from around the world. See the site here.

e-Cards

e-Cards can be a fun way to send someone a thank you or birthday card. For a long time the only way you could personalize the card was with a quick blurb at the end. Well now there is a way to put your face onto a card and give it that extra "I miss you feeling." Check out the site here to send a superhero card to your special someone.

Orville Redenbacher Tea Party Commercial

Dutch Comedy Central: Enjoy Daily

We've all been here. How great is it to see in slow motion.

Social Media

There are three videos posted on a blog I read by the people over at Organic about Social Media. It shows examples about how social media is changing the way we communicate as individuals and how brands must begin to communicate. The examples are the recent Domino's food up the nose debacle, Susan Boyle singing on the British version of American Idol, and the YouTube Orchestra. Each video shows a different way that an idea was spread around the world. Watch the examples here.

Domino's employees were caught putting food up their nose and placing it on a pizza for delivery. The way that Domino's responded to the video shows how fast a conflict can spiral out of control.

There have been 1 million people who have watch Susan Boyle, "the frumpy Scotish housewife" sing with golden pipes.

And a project to find new musicians from around the world. People posted videos of themselves playing instruments and the best were selected to perform at a concert a Carnegie Hall.

Information flows faster than ever, and we must take note to have ideas to bring our brand's voice to the next level, as well as be aware that we must be ready to go on the crisis management offensive. It is an exciting world that we work in.

aM Laboratory - tonematrix

An internal email at my office sent this out this week. For those of you not on the list I wanted to post it for you to play with. Go to aM Laboratory and click on the squares to make your own music. It is really addictive.

Divine Chocolates - Egg a Politician

Divine Chocolate launched an Easter themed site where you can throw a chocolate Easter egg at a politician. The point of the campaign is to keep fair trade on the agenda during the G20 summit. Once you throw a certain number of eggs and a pre-written email pops up. Whomever you threw an egg at will receive an email from you if you plug in your information. Visit the site here.

Under Armour - Jose Reyes

YES! Baseball season is back. This ad will get you pumped about going to see some games. I know I am watching the scalpers by my office, and am going to see some Baseball. It was a little hard to listen to opening day National Anthem at the Giant's game, and not be in the Ballpark.

Trocaire - Hiding Places

From the Catholic Church of Ireland comes a non-profit group called Trocaire. For Lent they launched this spot to help inform the public about children forced from their homes by war. Watch the ad a couple of times to get its full effect. This is an intense ad that hits your sympathy button and pushes with tremendous force.

Milk - Jumpers

Viral videos sweeping YouTube are starting to make it to main stream through advertising and brands.

Sprint - Stats

Client: "We want to show Sprint in a light that says we don't suck ass, and we use Twitter because we are innovative."
Agency: "Fuck. OK let's show your statistics. They are big numbers and make it seem like you don't have all the problems that you really have."
Client: "We love it, but make sure you leave out our horrible customer service. The number of complaints is way to big."

Coke - Crave

Ever wanted something so badly you could see it everywhere?

Dole - WTF

I can honestly say that this ad MAKES me want to only buy Dole forever.

SABER sexy lightsaber underwear fight

I had this happen to me last weekend so I thought it was relevant to post.

Gatorade 'G' - Wooden Spot

New Gatorade G spot with Hall of Fame coach John Wooden. I still don't like these ads, but of the G spots this is the best. Ok maybe it gave me goosebumps.

Mow the Lawn

Holy Crap! I have to say that this is probably one of the most subtle ads I have seen in a while.

A beautiful site and for a good cause.

O2 - RoboRetirement

Retirement looks extremely boring, even for robots. What we need is for the robots to continue working to make our lives easier. Maybe they could dial the phone for us when we need to complain, or we could program them to call and complain for us to humans. They could keep repeating the wrong words, and saying that they did understand.

P!nk Peta Ad:

They finally took it here.

Eldest Man Meets a New Born Baby - Encounter

Can you guess what this is an ad for? Look closely, or just wait till the end. McCann Erickson/Madrid used a 102 year old man and a new born child to help get across the messaging for ______. It is a little presumptuous to think that this brand is one of the good things in life during these economic hardships, but I guess to each their own.

Loewe - Sound Control

Ah, another choir commercial to describe sound. Not as "innovative" as the Honda Choir, but a playful way to show sound control. I guess it is up to you to find the perfect pitch for your home theater system, just don't put to much emphasis on the balance, or you might lose all of your sound.

Samsung's Projector Phone

It is here, a phone that can be used as a projector. I realize there is a product that plugs into phones and projects images, but this phone actually project onto your hand. I mean that is freaking awesome. Ok, so it might work at longer distances as well, but I think that the hand presentation will sweep across the boardrooms. See the phone in action at the CES here.

Don't break her voice

To show how smooth a ride in a the Mercedes Benz E Class is, Mercedes recorded Dianna Reeves signing in the car as it whips around a driving course. She doesn't miss a beat even with her seat belt fastened. I can't even hit a note standing still and this women should be thrown around a car, except she doesn't even look like she is moving. This is what you call a smooth operator. Check out the site and watch the video here.

Exploratorium

The San Francisco Exploratorium launched a new site, which is filled with quick facts about global warming. Rolling over one of the colorful bubbles reveals the ideas that a group has submitted. The Exploratorium is a great science museum to help teach/show kids a fun way to learn about science. This site also jumps in that direction, by getting the conversation going about global warming. See the site here.

Skitle and Social Media

I guess it is time to talk about Skittles, the idea that was stolen from Modernista's campaign. Skittles decided that it wanted eveyone else to talk about their brand and changed skittle.com to a twitter site with a Skittles navigation bar in the upper left corner. People were able to navigate from one form of social media to another, such as a Skittle Facebook page, YouTube channel, and Flickr group. The problem was, within one day, people started posting profanity on the twitter feed, causing Skittles to change their homepage to their Wikipedia page. You can see what they are doing here.

Biting into chocolate...a pool filled with brown floating things....riding through them and watching the brown floating things fly all over the screen...definitely makes me want a candy bar.

Watch what you post on Facebook. You never know what Photoshop technique is being used on your photo.

Lays - Fireworks

I think that Lays might be exaggerating a little when they forget to tell about all the other crap in their chips that make them so 'good' for you.

Radiohead Donates

Radiohead donated one of their songs to a Homeless Shelter organization. This video shows the song they donated, "House of Cards" on their album In Rainbows. Cool ad.

NHRA Full Throttle

Music, sweet music can make anything seem cool. The last video reminds me of the "Mad World" Gears of War Ad. It takes music that you normally would not associate with the brand or product, and it completely changes the feel.

Pure Inventions - Ad a little flavor to your water

These ads were done by Grey NYC, but they remind me of Publicis Hal Riney's website.

Not Crispin

Y&R Auckland, New Zealand created this funny play on words. You will have to read the copy to really understand this ad.

Rios Illustration - We Put Anything on Paper

From a Brazilian ad agency, Artplan. A steam roller/printing press creating a 3D image into a 2D image. Really cool executions.

Samsung i450 - Let Music Fill Your Head

Print campaign for the Samsung i450 that was advertised in New Delhi, India. I love the art direction in these ads, and it is also a great way to show how music could possibly take over evil. There was another image, but I like the contrast of Osama Bin Laden and Bush.

Orange Wednesday

It's not easy being green. But I thought Orange was a phone company.

KK Projects

Post Katrina, the artist Kirsha Kaechele, bought and transformed houses into art. Very creative way to turn the ravaged homes into something beautiful. New Orleans is turning into a hub of creative talent.

Pepsi Max Super Bowl Spots

Pepsi Max is targeting men? OK, so the "first" diet soda for men. Hmmmm, am I missing something here? Oh well enjoy the Pepsi Max Super Bowl Spots.

I found this while looking through a blog called Cool Hunting. It was taken in Cuba by an artist named Baldomero Fernandez.

He comments, "usually I tend to photograph quiet scenes that are empty and have a feeling of solitude. The surreal part that comes through is usually more because of anachronisms, or maybe something is just out of place. It's not straightforward surrealism. Reality usually tends to be far stranger than fiction" (from Cool Hunting). You can read the full Q + A here, and also look at more of his Cuba photos.

I would love to go and see some of his other work on display. Also, having gone to Cuba, I really like this shot.

Gatorade 'G' Super Bowl Spot

Gatorade is at it again with their 'G' commercials. Mohammad Ali - The Greatest of All Time.

A Landline to Rival Your SmartPhone

The touch-screen based Verizon Hub is ($200; Release date TBA) is Verizon's attempt to try and get people to not ditch their landline phone, and this phone does just that. The phone is able to have widget-style traffic, weather, directions, pizza ordering and movie trailer functionality, the ability to add contacts and calendar events remotely, and visual voicemail. Now we need LG to make a TV with all of these capabilities.

New Orleans My Second Home

For those of you who don't know that I lived in New Orleans for 6 years, well now you do. Probably the craziest city ever. But good crazy. Well this is a site that shows photography of books that were devastated during hurricane Katrina. Powerful stuff, and it gives people another view on what happened in '05. The site redirects interested people to Friends of New Orleans where YOU can help support the rebuilding of New Orleans.

Also, don't forget that Jazzfest is right around the corner. I guarantee you will have an unbelievable time and you will eat some of the most delicious food. YEAH YOU RIGHT!

E*TRADE Baby Outtakes

E-Trade is going for the Super Bowl once again with their talking baby. Well this is clever use of Grey's time. Outtakes!!!!

Drumstick Ad - The Summer Parade

This one is fun, but a little to similar to Coke's Happiness Factory. I mean they even have the walking lips.

The BANNED DFS Rockstar advert

This one is up there on the worst ads I have seen in a while. Still second to Montgomery Flea Market. YouTube that if you haven't seen it.

LeBron James State Farm Anticipation

From the first ad where LeBron says he is going to admit his true love I was intrigued, but to go to football was not a big leap. I still like the ad, I only wish they had gone away from sports and made this a little funnier.

What really happened during the taping of the Whopper Virgins

Live Flight of the Concords Show at Amoeba Records

Tricky Shiner Bock, oh soooooo tricky. Free koozie outside of a concert that exclusively sells Heineken beer. Cover up the Heineken logo and voila a completely different beer. This is a smooth way to get past paying the big bucks for the sponsorship, but they loose out on the beer sales. So who really won this battle?

Is radio hurting this badly that they need to get pros on the street to get people to tune into a talk show? Well one ad agency thinks so, and I bet there are some pissed off pimps that want their cut. I am going to call out the agency so that the pimps can get what they work so hard for. So The Bishop Don “Magic” Juan go get Zig for yo dough.

Coke is on drugs

Coke is launching a few spots during some big game with Bowl and Super in the title. WTF. If I had tats that could do what these teenagers drawings are capable of, then I would be on the street hustling some tourists hoping to get on Conan O'Brien. Check out the spot here:

T-Mobile Flash Mob

With traffic running along as usual, T-Mobile stepped out onto the dance floor/Liverpool St. station to get into the funky groove. As the video progresses more and more people in the station turn out to be part of the giant electric slide. OK so maybe they don't do the electric slide, but it is a choreographed scene that multiplies with more and more people.
